AI-enabled software adds AI to particular tasks in a product that still does its main work without those features. A back-office system may keep client records and tasks as it always did, then add a page that drafts from meeting notes. The AI helps with that task; it does not define the whole product.
After Tom and Grace Oduya's first meeting, an administrator uses such a page to draft their fact-find from the adviser's notes. It returns proposed answers on its own screen. She checks them against the notes and enters the answers into the back-office fields. If the AI page were switched off, the firm could still complete and store the fact-find using those fields. That is what makes this product AI-enabled in this example.
The meeting notes remain the source of the clients' answers; the AI draft is another step in handling them. A check against the AI page would confirm only what the administrator copied, not whether it matches the meeting. Other AI-enabled features may work in the background or write to a record. The label alone does not tell the firm what any feature can read or change.
Not to be confused with
- In an AI-native product, AI is central to the main job it exists to do. Neither label establishes what its AI may read, write or change.
- Vendors use AI-enabled in different ways. Ask which tasks use AI and whether the product's main work still functions without those features.
- Enabled, in this entry, is not a setting. Any product can have its AI features enabled, meaning switched on.

PrincipalDoes the new AI page make our back office AI-native?
AdministratorIt drafts the fact-find, but the back office still works without it. I check its answers against the meeting notes before entering them.
